Area 61 Treatment and Accessibility Committee(TAC)
We meet the First Monday of each Month

The Treatment committee works to coordinate and organize AA members and groups to carry the AA message into various treatment facilities in Rhode Island. These include:
- Detoxification Units
- Residential/Inpatient Programs
- Outpatient Programs
- Dual Diagnosis units (alcoholism/mental illness)
- Mother and Child Residential Program
- Other facilities
Other priorities include providing AA literature to members in these facilities, communicating with facility coordinators, connecting soon-to-be released members with Bridging the Gap contacts, and reminding our groups and members of general and facility specific guidelines.
We do not represent AA, however, we may be the only representation these facilities see of AA.
If you or your group are interested in a “treatment commitment”(carrying the AA message and bringing in a meeting to a treatment facility,) please click the “SUBMIT GROUP INTEREST IN FACILITY COMMITTMENT” button directly below to submit your information to the committee. Our chair/alt chair will respond within 2 – 3 business days.
Bridging the Gap is a program connecting those exiting a treatment facility to AA. There is a phone number (and soon to be email address) for those exiting to contact, and we work to connect them with an AA member in their community (or where they will be staying temporarily.) That member is encouraged to meet them at a local AA meeting and introduce them to the Fellowship as soon as possible upon their release. The Accessibilities committee is working to provide resources to AA groups and members on how to make the AA message more accessible to all alcoholics. This includes physical and online spaces, members who may be neurodivergent, blind, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, non-English speaking, or have physical limitations. Currently, we are designing a designated resources web page, confirming ASL interpreters at centralized AA meetings, and checking in with online groups about automated captioning features.
We encourage anyone interested in the Treatment and Accessibilities work to please attend our regular monthly meeting on the first Monday of the month. There are plenty of opportunities to be of service!
